Lost Your Dog? How to Activate TAPiTAG Lost Mode and Help Bring Them Home

If your dog has gone missing, the most important thing is to make it as easy as possible for anyone who finds them to contact you.

If your dog is wearing a TAPiTAG Smart Pet Tag, you can switch their profile into Lost Mode so that anyone who taps or scans the tag immediately sees that your pet is missing and gets clear ways to contact you.

Go straight to your TAPiTAG login

If you are looking for the TAPiTAG login because your pet is missing, use this link:

We recommend bookmarking this page on your phone so you can reach it quickly if you ever need it.

You can also access your account by tapping or scanning your own TAPiTAG and using the login icon on the profile page. TAPiTAG’s public FAQ confirms that profiles can be edited through the account login. TAPiTAG

How to activate Lost Mode

Once you are logged in:

  1. Open the profile for the pet that is missing.
  2. Turn on Lost Mode.
  3. Check that your phone number and other contact details are correct.
  4. Check the pet photo and identification details.
  5. Add or update any important information a finder should know.
  6. Save your changes.

Your normal pet profile will then change into a much more urgent missing-pet page designed to help someone who finds your dog understand what to do next.

TAPiTAG’s Lost Mode is designed to make the finder experience clear and urgent rather than simply showing a normal pet profile. TAPiTAG

What should you put on the Lost Mode profile?

Keep it simple.

The person who finds your dog may be standing beside a road, in a park or trying to keep an unfamiliar dog safe. They should not have to search through lots of information.

Make sure the profile contains:

  • a clear, recent photo
  • your dog’s name
  • your phone number
  • an alternative contact where possible
  • important medical information
  • behaviour or handling instructions
  • anything the finder urgently needs to know

For example:

“Teddy is 15, deaf and moves slowly. He is friendly. Please call us immediately if you find him.”

What happens when someone finds your dog?

The finder does not need to download the TAPiTAG app.

They can either:

Tap the tag using NFC

or

Scan the QR code with their phone camera

The pet profile then opens in their browser.

They can see the information you have chosen to provide and contact you directly. The TAPiTAG pet system is designed so the finder can access the profile without creating an account or installing an app. TAPiTAG

Will I know if my dog’s tag has been scanned?

Yes.

TAPiTAG can send you an email scan alert when the pet tag is accessed.

This can be valuable even before the finder contacts you because it lets you know that someone has interacted with the tag.

You can also view scan history from your TAPiTAG account.

Can TAPiTAG show me where my dog was found?

It can help provide a finder-shared location, but it is important to understand how this works.

TAPiTAG is not a live GPS tracker.

The tag does not continuously transmit your dog’s location and there is no battery inside the tag.

When someone finds your dog and taps or scans the tag, they may be asked to allow location access on their phone.

If they agree, their phone can share the location of the scan with you.

That location can then help you identify where your dog has been found.

The finder must allow location access for this feature to work. TAPiTAG’s current pet information describes this as finder-activated location rather than continuous GPS tracking. TAPiTAG

What should I do after turning on Lost Mode?

Activating TAPiTAG Lost Mode should be one part of your lost-pet plan.

You should also:

  • search the immediate area
  • contact local veterinary clinics
  • contact local shelters, pounds or animal-control services
  • notify your pet’s microchip database where applicable
  • tell neighbours and local community groups
  • share a recent photo on local social-media groups
  • keep your phone nearby and make sure calls from unknown numbers can get through

If your pet returns home, remember to log back into TAPiTAG and switch Lost Mode off.

What if I cannot remember my TAPiTAG login address?

Use:

https://account.tapitag.co/

It is worth saving this address to your phone now rather than trying to find it during an emergency.

We would also suggest bookmarking it under a name such as:

Test your pet tag before you ever need Lost Mode

Do not wait until your pet is missing to find out whether your contact information is correct.

From time to time:

  • tap or scan the tag yourself
  • check the pet profile
  • make sure your phone number is correct
  • check your emergency information
  • make sure the QR code is easy to scan
  • make sure the tag is still securely attached to the collar

Your information can be updated without replacing the physical tag. TAPiTAG
